Overview:

With the collaboration of Action and Light and Institute of English and Other Language of University of Rajshahi, The TESOL Society of Bangladesh successfully conducted a training program aimed at enhancing the capacity of Qawmi Madrasa English teachers. The event, part of the Hornby Project, focused on implementing current language teaching pedagogy to improve the effectiveness of English instruction in Qawmi Madrasas across Bangladesh.

 

Participants:

Approximately 50 teachers from various Qawmi Madrasas attended the training program. These educators engaged in a full day of intensive training designed to equip them with modern pedagogical techniques and methodologies tailored to the unique context of Qawmi Madrasas.

Program Highlights:

  • Welcome and Introduction: The event commenced with a warm welcome and an introduction to the objectives and significance of the training program by representatives from the TESOL Society of Bangladesh and Action and Light and Institute of English and Other Languages of University of Rajshahi.
  • Interactive Workshops: The program included several interactive workshops that covered a range of topics, including contemporary language teaching strategies, classroom management, and the integration of technology in language teaching.
  • Expert Sessions: Experts from the Institute of English and Other Languages, University of Rajshahi, University of Dhaka and other Universities led sessions on innovative teaching methods, providing practical insights and demonstrations to help teachers effectively engage their students.
  • Group Activities: Participants were involved in group activities and discussions that fostered collaboration and the exchange of ideas among the teachers, allowing them to learn from each other’s experiences.

Outcomes:

The training program was highly successful, with all participants actively engaging in the sessions and demonstrating a keen interest in adopting the new teaching methodologies. By the end of the day, the teachers had gained valuable knowledge and skills that will enhance their English teaching practices.

Certificates:

At the conclusion of the training, each participant was awarded a certificate recognizing their successful completion of the program. This certification not only acknowledges their commitment to professional development but also enhances their credentials as educators.

Conclusion:

The Hornby Project training program, organized by the TESOL Society of Bangladesh in collaboration with the Institute of English and Other Languages, University of Rajshahi and Action and Light was a significant step towards improving English education in Qawmi Madrasas. The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from the teachers underscore the success of the initiative and its potential long-term impact on English language teaching in the region.
